MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- On Sunday, Sept. 15, thousands came together as the 50th Annual Mexican Independence Day filled the streets of Milwaukee's south side.
"It's going to be loud and proud and green, red and white with an eagle in the middle, and happy Mexican Independence Day," said David Parisot, attendee.
Dozens of floats, school bands, and car clubs joined the parade to show their pride and what this day means to them.
"It means independence, it means opportunity for my family that came from Mexico it means everything to my students, my niece who is a UWM graduate, it means the world to me," Parisot explained.
One attendee says this is his first year attending the parade and couldn't be more proud of how Milwaukee is represents Mexican culture.
"I grew up in Mexico since I was 13 years old, the people, the music, the food actually the food for me is like really good. I love the Mexican people the Mexican community around here in Milwaukee I'm so thankful to be a part of it," said one attendee.
Sept. 16th marks 214 years since Mexico gained independence from Spain.
"It's also important to learn the history, especially in Milwaukee so other people can learn the history of Mexican culture," said Jianny Mora, attendee.
