BRISTOL, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Active-duty military and veterans took to a ropes course in Kenosha County, but not for training, for fun. Boundless Adventures held the annual event to honor their service on Friday, Sept. 27.
"This is like the best thing ever honestly just keeping active," said Mike Beall, army veteran.
Army veteran Mike Beall had a ball Friday night on the green ropes course. So did his son, Blake, who says he's finally tall enough.
"Now I can do it, it was so fun," said 8-year-old Blake Beall.
The Bealls were among dozens of army veterans and active military personnel harnessing up and heading out to the rope courses at Boundless Adventures in Bristol Woods Park.
"I saw it on social media, and I've always been wanting to do it something active with my daughter," said First Sergeant James Williams, Army, Milwaukee Recruiting Company.
An estimated 200 people were at the event, bounding around one of 9 courses.
"And this was just something we said we're gonna do every year," said Brian Funtleyder, Boundless Adventures.
Military families got to climb for free. Proceeds from others will benefit American Legion Post 21 in Kenosha.
"So, our building is built in the late 30's. We have a lot of repairs and things like that and it's also for families that need help," said Matt Christiansen, American Legion Post 21.
Jason Church says getting through one of these obstacles courses is meaningful for a lot of veterans.
"When I was injured in Afghanistan and lost my legs, I had a whole set of obstacles in front of me and this place here. Boundless Adventures, what this company has done, has given veterans an opportunity to come out here and go over the course to challenge themselves," said Army Veteran Jason Church. "And have fun with their family. Also see that the obstacles that are in front of them here today aren't always the things that are gonna be in the future. If you overcome something here, then they can overcome it anywhere."
